FIRST-EVER TRAC’N EVENT DELAYED!
Alta Vista Events (AVE) regrets to announce that the first TRAC’N event, scheduled for July 24, 2010 must be postponed for technical reasons. The technical problems are in-house and with AVE accurately scoring the event and have nothing to do with the IRC units or IRC.
It’s was the company’s commitment that the scoring of this unique event would be void of any discrepancies, especially when certain sections of the 106-mile course call for specific speeds, finite averages, and important instructions that each participant must follow in order to have a clean run. The official scoring would be done all by computer with no personal input to insure that all scoring is fair, clean and void of any discretionary say.
Unfortunately, the scoring program used by AVE is not yet completely amalgamated with the IRC Tracking units, and in some cases it may not be entirely accurate. This is unacceptable to AVE.
According to promoter, Lou Peralta, “We want to do the scoring all by computer, with little or no input from us. This type of off-road racing requires a more “tech-no” approach to scoring it. It’s certainly more complicated than scoring a normal off-road race.”
“For example; if a racer exceeds the GPS posted maximum speed limit, the IRC tracking unit would record the infraction and send the computer that information, and from then on, our scoring program would take over and issue a penalty accordingly. Likewise, if a racer takes the wrong course or fails to stop where indicated or not average a speed that is called for, we want our computer to automatically asses the pre-set penalties.”
Peralta added, “But most importantly, at the end of the event, we want the official results completed and ready to be posted without delays, within two-hours from when the last vehicle has crossed the finish line.”
“We thought we were there, but after several recent tests, our scoring program has not proven to be 100% accurate. Therefore, we must correct it.” said Alan Bell, course director.
As a result, AVE will postpone the event until a later date, once these “glitches” have been addressed and made right.
Those who pre-entered the event have already been refunded their entry fee(s) either by credit card “credit” or through individual PayPal accounts. Those who sent in checks, AVE has already issued a refund check for the same amount plus any processing costs.

IMPORTANT NEWS: Just so that not all is lost, AVE will post the actual GPS racecourse on Wednesday, JULY 21, 2010 as a .usr file to download, or if anyone needs a different extension, AVE will try to convert it accordingly and post it on their website as well: www.altavistaevents.com. You need to contact AVE at info@altavistaevents.com and request your file extension for your GPS before July 21st if you can’t use the current .usr file.
Peralta felt badly that many had already planned to compete in this unique event, and were set for a great adventure in off-road racing. As a result, AVE decided to make the 106+-mile course available for the weekend of July 24 at no cost, free, gratis, nada, including all the parameters, notes, instructions and requirements that were to be issued for the event!
Peralta added, “I think this course is one of the best we have ever laid out, and certainly one of the best off-road courses in Southern California. So many parts are just like racing in Baja and most of the trails are not overused or constrained. In fact, we were salivating while laying out the course. It’s got everything you’d want in a racecourse, but in short spurts; sand washes, rocky trails, two-rail whoops, hill climbs, open desert, G-outs, and major whoops. I think a lot of people are going to be pleasantly surprised when they come to Cal City, upload the GPS course and see what we’re talking about. It’s terrific!”
Peralta said, “We ask that anyone trying out our course, pay particular attention to the GPS notes and speed limits. We also request to respect the trails, land and everything around it. This is the only way we can bring back off-road racing to California City.”
Peralta also assured that when the technical scoring glitches are corrected the event will be re-scheduled.
Finally, AVE recommends trying the 106-mile loop at night, when the race was supposed to take place. It’s suggested that driver and navigator attempt it at that time to really get used to using and reading their GPSs, without seeing other trails, or without course markers (ribbons, arrows, etc.)--might as well start practicing for future events. So take advantage of the FREE GPS file.
The start/finish is located at the Alta Vista Ranch, Proctor and 138th. Use this link to get exact directions: http://www.altavistaevents.com/Pages/Directions.html
