Things
are going to be tough for promoters as a result of the incident in Lucerne.
·
Certain
desert areas might be closed if not highly restricted.
·
Costs
are sure to go up, not just for permits and staffing, but insurance as well.
·
Limitations on
how events should be conducted are sure to be plenty.
·
Off-Road
as we have known it, and as we know it today, is in jeopardy.
·
We
have to be innovative and come up with ways to protect our sport.
·
We
have to come up with solutions that will mitigate our events and allow us to
continue to enjoy our deserts and open areas, while being conscientious of the
environment around us.
·
We
MUST adapt.
·
Bottom line, if we don’t do anything
positive, we will lose it all!!!
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?
For us here in Cal-City, the answer
is in what we have been working on and proposing for the last five years:
There must be a new manner of
competition in the desert, a truly sensible, albeit different way to compete, yet
as fierce as always, while applying good common sense to each event. So here it
is:
1.
OUR
concept of off-road competition is the new,

‘TRAC’N PRACTICE “TRIAL” Round #1, Saturday, Sep 18, 2010
–
“NUTS IN THE FALL 100” – 2/50 mi Laps
2.
For
our next two events in 2011, the entry fee will be only $25.00!
IMAGINE THAT! And,
you get one free BBQ ticket after the event. Extra BBQs are $5.00 each,
including beverage.
3.
Also, for the next two events in
2011, the rental fee for an IRC Travel Recorder unit is only $25.00 (No live tracking – Thank you IRC)!
4.
All
the classes you are familiar with are available and then some.
5.
TRAC’N
events will “test” your speed and navigation skills like never before.
6.
TRAC’N courses will have no
markings, no arrows, and no ribbons. (Leaving less impact on the desert)
7.
TRAC’N will offer no pre-running. (Also leaving
much less impact on the desert)
8.
There will be no easy entry or access
into the course, except by officials, sweeps and by permit only. (Again, less impact on the desert and more crowd control if
they don’t know where the course is.)
9.
The
course map will only indicate where we are placing official PITS and Spectator
areas.
10.
No one, not even the participants
will know where the course is until he/she is registered and ready to “STAGE” for the start.
11.
That
also means that “chase crews” will have no idea where the course is, either,
until it is necessary for one of them to enter the course for retrieval or to make
repairs.
12.
The
only markings on the course are for mileage markers and a few “DANGER” (if any) signs.
13.
The
entire course will be downloaded onto your GPS (chip) just prior to the start
of the event. Therefore, you must have paid/checked-in first, and have a
programmable GPS unit in your vehicle such as Garmin, Lowrence, Magellan and
others.
14.
Should
you have a problem, we will send your “chase crew” to the exact spot where you
are located unless one of our “Course Monitors” has found you first.
15.
You
will be required to stay on the “Virtual” desert course or be penalized by
added time.
16.
Again, you MUST rent an IRC Travel Recorder (no, not the live
tracking system) from IRC. $25.00!!!
17.
We will conduct and score the event
as if it was a race. We want people to start getting familiar with the way events
are going to be in the future. IT’S BETTER TO START NOW!
18.
You will be able to go as fast as you
and/or your navigator can travel, keeping in mind that you must stay on the
“virtual” course, except where speeds and stops are mandated. Any deviation from the “virtual”
course and speeds will cost penalty points against your E. T. (Elapsed Time).
19.
As you finish, we will download your
IRC Travel Recorder and within minutes we can see where you went.
20.
The
Top 5 Overall and Most Accurate entries will receive special awards.
21.
For
this event, there will be TECH FOR
SAFETY ONLY! Bring your racecar, pre-runner or your wife’s SUV.
