At the Alta
Vista Ranch, CA
Proctor &
138th
RACERS:
·
We are reducing
our entry fee back to $55.00 per entry.
·
The entry fee does NOT include a T-shirt. You
can order separately at $10.00 ea. If you wish to purchase an event T-shirt,
you can do so if you’ve signed up at least 10 days before the event.
·
YOU MUST USE THE IRC TRACKING UNIT IF YOU
PLAN ON RACING OUR NEXT EVENT AND FUTURE EVENTS.
·
Therefore, you
must rent and pay directly to IRC (not Alta Vista Events). You can do this in
several ways:
1. Contact IRC at 714.544.0668
to order your IRC unit.
2. You can go to their website at http://www.racetheworld.net/ or
3. You can also reserve a unit and pay for it with
Check, Credit Card, or Pay-Pal.
4. If you reserve it and want to pay by cash, you must
do it on the Friday before the race at the X-SPOT from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
- Important Information: - Liability waver – Click Here
- VERY
IMPORTANT – If you break down or get off or are injured, you must stay with your
bike. We will have sweeps along the racecourse. DO NOT WONDER AWAY thinking you can get help easier. STAY WITH YOUR BIKE/QUAD. It
helps to know approximately where you are on the course for such
matters. Try to communicate where you may see someone stuck on the
course. We have marked the course every mile, so if you give us an
approximate mileage, we should find that spot fairly quickly.
- IT IS THE
RACER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE WE CAN READ YOUR NUMBERS, SO THAT
THE ENTRY CAN BE PROPERLY SCORED!
- WE WILL PROVIDE
YOU WITH YOUR RACE NUMBERS AT THE TIME YOU CHECK-IN
AND/OR REGISTER.
- STAY ON THE
MARKED COURSE - At no time is anyone allowed wondering
off into the desert. Please stay on the marked course! (Course distance
may change at the last moment due to environmental or safety concerns.)
- Course markings
for this event: Green wood stakes, Black arrows on white bkg. and a new
color scheme of ribbon.
- Corners: It will be
necessary to mark certain critical corners so that no racer cuts or
“rounds out” the corner. If we see anyone cutting a corner or rounding
it out, we may penalize or disqualify an individual. The IRC Tracking
System will tell us that. We will also mark the corners with signs,
banners, caution tape or ribbon to make sure you stay on the course!
- Down arrows: We realize
that you need plenty of warning when negotiating a corner or change of
direction. We will place “1” “down” arrow ¼ of a mile before the turn;
“2” “down arrows” 1/8th of a mile and “2” or “3” arrows at the stop or
turn.
- Danger arrows: We’ll use the
same formula (1/4, 1/8 and at the spot) to designate dangerous spots,
crossings, and areas where you MUST slow down.
- Mileage
markers: Always keep track of the mileage-marker(s) you’ve cleared. This is good
in the event that you have problems or get-off, or run into someone who
may need assistance. It will help our officials and medics reach you or others
and/or the spot much faster. Officials will have a course map with the
mileage markers listed for quick reference. Course mileage markers will be set at every two miles on the course.
- Communications: All racers
will be encouraged to use either a 2-meter FM hand-held radio or cell
phone in case of emergency. These can be stored in the racer’s back-pack
or butt-pack. The “official frequency” is 151.880 MHz and/or 151.925 MHz which can be programmed onto your hand-held radio.
- Telephone
communications: Our cell # is 760-578-6258 or -6256 and 760.382.3528 (Allan Bell at the
bottom of the course) to contact race officials during race.
- Awards for the SuperCourse are based on a 30%
scale of Class entry, and will be given out at the next event. However,
if you wish to have your award sent to you before that date, please send $10.00 for shipment via
either UPS or Fed Ex.
- Results “link” will be
e-mailed to racers whose e-mail address we have. They will also be
posted on our website. Race results become official 10 days after the
event.
- All races are
on Saturday (unless otherwise noted).
- IMPORTANT II-
Refueling during
the Super-Course (Super-C) will be done in a specifically designated area. Everyone must pit there
for refueling and nowhere else. This is a must to preserve these areas
for us to race.
- IMPORTANT III: If you feel you cannot go at least 50
miles on one tank you must let us know with us before you start.
- All crew inside the
refueling area must be banded and have signed a “Liability” release.
No one
under 16 years-old is allowed inside the refueling pit.
- There will be a “Hazardous
Material” container to dispense soiled rags and paper;
and there will be fire extinguishers in case of fire.
- We need VOLUNTEERS
AS COURSE OFFICIALS TO HELP SWEEP EVERY LAP!
- Keeping all
areas within the racecourse and pits clean is absolutely necessary. We encourage everyone to bring plenty of trash
bags and receptacles in order to keep the desert clean. As promoters, we
will also make sure that when the race is over everything will be
removed and cleaned, including watering necessary areas and grading
damaged spots. We ask everyone’s help in maintaining these areas clean.
- At
the end of the Season, Alta Vista Events will present the special year-end CLASS POSINTS CHAMPIONSHIPS awards.
Exact location, date and time to be announced. We usually have it in
mid-January or early February.
Why
are we now using the IRC system? And why you have to pay more, while racing
with us?Those are legitimate questions: There are several reasons:
1. Many of you indicated that the reason you were not
racing with us any longer was that there was too much cheating. We agreed. We
felt that some racers would do anything to win. This not only was bad for all
of you but it was also terrible for us. In our case, we are trying to keep
our deserts open, and during two events this year, we were almost fined
$10,000.00 for each occurrence because the authorities were finding trails that
were not on our course. This was devastating for us and we all agreed that we
had to do something to mitigate their concerns and at the same time, reassure
you that we’ll have fair racing during our Series.
2. Technology is wonderful but it comes at a cost. IRC
has been terrific with us. They were originally going to charge $50.00 per
unit (albeit, they charge $250.00 + for Baja or BITD races—more sophisticated
systems), but they finally agreed to charge $25.00 per unit. I think this was a terrific gesture.
3. Unfortunately, some racers and critics were going
around saying that we, Alta Vista Events, were keeping that money. Not so.
4. Others though the racing was just getting too
expensive. We agree but that is the costs of not only having fun, but running
a first class series, year after year. We will be starting our sixth year in
2010.
5. At our last event, we were delighted that a couple of
our racers jumped in and helped sponsor the first 40 riders, by donating
$10.00 for each of the forty entries. That was just terrific and I hope many
of you let them know of your appreciation.
6. BUT WE
CAN’T EXCPECT THAT AT EVERY EVENT.
We are trying to secure corporate sponsors for this year who
might help. Regardless, this is the way it is right now.
7. But perhaps one of the most important reasons why we
will continue to use the IRC Tracking system is because we were able to prove
to official that our racers stayed on the course. We were able to physically show
them exactly where each racer was during the event.
8. We proved there was no obvious cheating on the course.
9. They were so satisfied that for the first time, they
smiled and said, if you can keep control of your events like that, we don’t
have an issue. I hadn’t heard that coming from officials in a very long time.
10. Therefore, from now on, all our events will have a
tracking system, and when needed, especially when we start racing cars and
trucks and buggies, we’ll upgrade to a better system.
11. If you plan on racing with us in all six events in
the series, you might want to consider buying your own unit for $100.00
directly from IRC. You’ll save money in the end. We/IRC will upgrade your
tracking system before each race.
Thank you. Now read on!...

For live engine starts each racer will
start 30-seconds apart. Starting positions are on a
first-come-first-serve basis according to how entries were received AS OF
JAN 20, 2010 and thereafter. Motorcycles start first and three (2) minutes
after the last MC, the first quad starts. Each racer has his/her
own time to start.
THE
IRC TRACKING SYSTEM: Please
reference above.
Everyone
who starts the race, in whatever class, MUST have attached on the bike/quad
or self, an IRC tracking unit. This unit will record your position every three seconds during the
race. At the finish we will download that information and produce a file
for each racer. We will then verify that you stayed on the marked course at
all times.
We will have IRC officials at the
start/finish to help you set up the unit on your vehicle before the start.
However, it is your responsibility to make sure the unit stays on! You lose it, you pay for it.
COURSE
PRE-RUNNING – For the first time,
we are going to allow people to pre-run some of the courses.
We suggest well before the start that you get to the
IRC Trailer official and get your unit set up. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT. Most races will start
at 10 a.m. and you must be staged in line, in your spot, no later than 9:45 a.m. You
miss your staging time you will be relegated to the back of the pack;
however, your time will have started when you were supposed to leave. If
you don’t have the tracking system on, or you did not set it up correctly,
you WILL NOT BE SCORED.
·
Yes, if the IRC guys are here earlier, so
you may have your unit set up even before the Rider’s Meeting.
TEAMS
RACING: If you have a Novice, an Expert and a rider over
40 years-old, you can sign up as a “Team” (FREE) right after the
Rider’s Meeting; and we will score each team based on each team member’s
overall position. Winning team will receive a cash prize of no less than
$120.00. It could be more if we have sponsors.
